Read to page 241 in Native Son. First, analyze Bigger's emotional state after realizing that his plan was not going to work (cite textual evidence to support your answer). Second, evaluate how his emotions could have been driving his actions against Bessie and any conflicting emotions he may be having. Again, cite textual evidence to support your answer.

Read to page 272 (end of Book 2) and then answer the below, citing textual evidence to support your response.
In taking in all of Book 2, were the police justified in the way they captured Bigger? If not, what could they have done differently? Were they justified in the way they drug him down to the waiting crowds? Could this have been done today?
Consider how the writer portrayed Bigger as he tried to make his final escape and eventual capture, and the way he wrote about the police search. How realistic was this section of the novel? Was it believable? Why/why not.
